Since most people are/soon will be working from/stuck at home and children are off from school, these testing times of being struck by a pandemic can be both scary and frustrating. However, you can better chanelize your time and energies rather than giving into the natural fear of the situation or sheer laziness and frustration that can grow rapidly.
Below is a list of things that you can do at this time –
1. Spend good quality time with your family. We spend so much of our time prioritizing work and social commitments over spending time with souls that are most closely connected with us: our family. Use this time to connect/reconnect with your parents, partner, siblings and children as lack of time spent together is a shocking reality in most families.
2. Watch movies, read good fiction and non-fiction, play board games (on actual boards rather than mobile screens), take up a new hobby like cooking or gardening, learn a new skill and most importantly – EXERCISE.
Time away from your daily routine can be a great way to unwind and pick up on personal goals that you may have been procrastinating for a while (learning how to cook, shedding those extra pounds, reading the book that has always taunted you from the shelf). Do include some form of exercise as that helps reduce stress and burn calories that your body is accumulating since you are at home.
3. Talk to people over the phone. Make use of video calls to stay in touch with your loved ones and catch up with old friends and acquaintances.
4. Spend time in the sun, it is very important for your body. Do take out time to sit in the garden or your balcony during the day as being confined with four walls can get depressing over an extended period of time.
5. Reduce expenditure as there is no surety of how the situation will progress in the following weeks. But, do not cut back on the salaries of your domestic help, car cleaners and other staff members who help you around the house/office. Since a lot of them may be mapping their household expenses against what you pay them, it would be really unfair to reduce their payouts or discharge them from their duties. Rather, pay them even for the days they don’t come to work insuring the course of this pandemic. Also, have a conversation with them to spread awareness about the current scenario and precautions if needed.
6. Get into a good routine. Laziness can easily creep in when you have little work or can work from home. Don’t let that sway you from a good routine. In fact, if you’ve always struggled with maintaining a routine, now is the time to set that right.
7. Be cautious, but not scared. Take all precautions needed and adhere to WHO and government/medical guidelines. If you receive any alarming news, check the source before you let it affect you and definitely before forwarding it to others.
8. Don’t worry. You can’t find a cure, decide or implement government policy or control what tomorrow looks like. So focus on how you can improve your own immunity and take necessary precautions.
Most importantly, sit back and take stock of what you are doing in life. Slow down, it is not a race. Ask yourself – If you have really prioritized your loved ones? If you have valued nature and spent time appreciating it? If you have a purpose or it’s just a meaningless rat race? If life is purposeless, are you ignoring that idea or embracing it? If you are grateful for each day?
Use this time for course correction, if needed.

If in your daily routine, you take care of what time you do what work, then it has a great effect on your birth chart planets.

How to Have a Good Routine
Leave your bed early.
The best time to get up is before sunrise, but even within 45 minutes of sunrise is also good. So if sunrise is at 6am, then you should get up by 6:45 and see the Sun. This will improve your Sun and you will start getting positive energy from Jupiter.
Don’t leave your bed immediately after opening your eyes. Stay on the bed for a few minutes. Meditate for few minutes, take your Isht, Guru and Parent’s Names, remember your Ancestors. Then put both your hands on your eyes. After that, put both feet on the floor according to nasika swaas running (breath from nostril). Then touch floor and take Ganeshjis and Bhumis name.
Get up and facing East, open your palms and then think about yourself – Who are you? What’s your Life’s Goal? What you need to do today? and also apologize to God for anything that you may have done wrong and pray for energy to correct the mistakes.
You should also thank people who have helped or not and that all your enemies turn into your friends. Send positive energy towards everyone and it’ll come back to you positively.
Then say to yourself that you won’t do anything wrong today. That you will do something for humanity, at least once today.
Then do jap of Gayatri Mantra,” Om Bram Brahspataaye Namah”/ “Om Gram Grim Grom Saha Guruvey Namaha” 5 times.
Get up and fix your pillow and blanket on your own.
Then look at the image of your Isht and Guru in your temple and bow.
Then wish everyone in the house and touch the feet of the elders or at least say hello to them.
Then do the following “kriya”:
When you get up, have 1 glass of water
Walk around, this can even be done in the house. However, best is to walk on grass
Go to the toilet but don’t try to use too much energy to go to the toilet. To go easily, take some currants soaked in milk the previous night before going to bed. Press your teeth together when going to the toilet.
Use Babool to brush your teeth if you have suffered some kind of deception.
Take a light shower and go for Surya Upasana , Tratak, and walk.
Then do Kapaalbhaati (learn from a Guru) for 5 minutes while doing jaap of your Isht.
Do anulom vilom while doing jap of your Isht.
Take full deep breaths for 5 minutes while continuing with your jap.
Then go for a walk if you do morning walks and then read something positive.
Take a shower. Sometimes, you can do a massage before showering.
Tap your towel to dry instead of rubbing it.
Wear your clothes.
Then do some meditation and pray to God.
Then have some amla and harad – if your stomach is not good, or if you have to do a lot of mental work, or if you have too much fat.
Then go for breakfast, but before eating, offer some to God, crow, cow, and dog if possible .Your house members can help each other in doing this.
Do not drink water while eating. Have it after at least 35 minutes of your meal.
Make sure you eat less than the amount of hunger you have.
Eat lunch between 12 and 1.30 pm.
You can lay on your left side for about 10 minutes after eating, it will be helpful, but don’t sleep.
Make sure you take a walk in the evening and do jap of your Isht and then do the mantra of your Guru (if given to you) and of whatever planet is troubling you: mangal, shani, rahu or ketu (only for these planets can be worshipped in the evening).
Make sure you eat your dinner by 8:30 pm. Make sure you sit in Vajraasana for 10-15 minutes after eating.
Try not to drink milk at night and if you do, then wait for 3 hours after drinking milk and then sleep.
Try to be positive throughout the day.
Try to go for a walk in the morning and in the evening and push for long walks. Don’t try to talk much while walking. Concentrate on your breath and thank God for your energy and body. If your neck is bent forward, then that shows that there is some weakness/disease developing in the body which may come little later in life.

Social media can be an addictive platform as we never get enough of using it and are constantly looking for ways to enhance its features.
When we speak about the positive effects of social media, we should also consider the following ill effects of the most popular medium of communication in the 21stcentury – a false sense of connection, lack of privacy, decreased productivity, inability to think independently, added wasteful expenditure, increased appetite, online-offline influences and so on.

A photo of a mega-food plate can trigger a part of the brain to compel observers to overeat. Beware of the content you see on social media, as it may have a major impact on your daily habits.
Online-Offline influences
A lot of people enjoy online interactions and entertainment just as much as they enjoy online shopping. But this is coupled with impact on relationships in the real world as sometimes such interactions can lead to jealousy and suspicion. For instance, more couples fall prey to jealousy or breakups based on online posts. Another reason for such bitterness between partners is when a partner is caught keeping up with their ex in online conversations. Another example is of negative posts being put up online by people you may or may not know in the real world, but the content of the posts may trigger self doubt, aggression, biased opinions and so on.
Addiction
Experts have not been in total agreement on whether internet addiction is a real thing, let alone social media addiction, but there’s some good evidence that both may exist. A review study from Nottingham Trent University looked back over earlier research on psychological characteristics, personality and social media use. Studies have confirmed that people tend to undergo a kind of withdrawal when forced to stay away from social media for even short periods of time. People tend to get obsessed with checking their phones constantly and they can’t stay without it even for a few hours. It becomes like a drug, we get addicted to it and after a point, it becomes difficult to withdraw.
More sadness, less well-being
The more we use social media, the less happy we seem to be. One study a few years ago found that Facebook use was linked to both, less moment-to-moment happiness and less life satisfaction – the more people used Facebook in a day, the more these two variables dropped off. In fact, another study found that social media use is linked to greater feelings of social isolation. The team looked at how much people used 11 social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, Vine, Snapchat and Reddit, and correlated this with their “perceived social isolation.” No surprise at all, it turned out that the more time people spent on these sites, the more socially isolated they perceived themselves to be. And perceived social isolation is one of the worst things for us, mentally and physically.
Mentally unhealthy comparison with others
Part of the reason Facebook makes people feel socially isolated (even though they may not actually be) is the comparison factor. We fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to others as we scroll through our feeds, and make judgements about how we measure up. But most of us do not realise that majority of the posts, photographs and check ins are shared by people about the high points of their lives. For example, most would share photographs of celebrating a promotion party but rarely anybody would share an image after having a bad day at work.
Jealousy – and a vicious cycle
It’s no secret that the comparison factor in social media leads to jealousy – most people will admit that seeing other people’s tropical vacations and perfectly behaved kids is envy inducing. Studies have certainly shown that social media use triggers feelings of jealousy. It creates SUSPICION and JEALOUSY even in older married couples and it disrupts well being of a person. People tend to keep their phones under their pillows, keeping passwords on their phones, etc leading to problems between partners. Overall, relationships are being affected negatively because of social media.
Delusion of thinking it will help
Part of the unhealthy cycle is that we keep coming back to social media, even though it doesn’t make us feel very good. This is probably because of what’s known as a forecasting error – like a drug, we think getting a fix will help, but it actually makes us feel worse; this boils down to an error in our ability to predict our own response.
Wrong measure of social life
A couple of years ago, a study found that more friends on social media doesn’t necessarily mean you have a better social life – there seems to be a cap on the number of friends a person’s brain can handle, and it takes actual social interaction (not virtual) to keep up these friendships.
Lowered creativity and decreases physical activity
Social media has made it easy for many to become just plain lazy. With the touch of your fingertips you can post a question to your social sites asking others for ideas rather than using your own imagination and thought process to generate an idea. Original thinking can easily be replaced by utilizing readily available information online, thus eliminating the need to create or come up with ideas. It also negates the actual physical effort involved in something as simple as going to the library, looking for a book in the house, going over to a friend’s place to seek help, making notes for the next day at work, etc.
Negative impact on children
Most social media sites have strict guidelines about age limits. However, young children may lie about their age in order to activate an account. These sites are not meant for the young brains. As a result, children may be exposed to language, pictures or content that is not appropriate for their age. Young minds are not equipped with the mentality to handle forms of cyber-bullying or online harassment that can occur. This can tie-in directly with depression which could even lead to physical harm.
Recently one of my astro-family members shared a shocking incident with me. She has a three year old nephew, her brother’s son, whom she had to baby sit one evening when the parents were out. When it was time to go to bed and she struggled to get him to sleep, he quite casually pointed out to her, “Bua, mail tab tak nahi sounga jab tab aap mobile hone nahi chalaoge.”, indicating that the child is used to going off to sleep when a mobile phone is being used and is somewhat dependent on that. This incident and similar ones are something that most young parents are facing these days without realizing the implications that the use of mobile phones and social media has on a brain that is still developing, a thinking that is still maturing and an innocence which is being rapidly lost. Such incidents are a testament to the fact that excessive use of mobile phones, laptops and social media has been passed on to the next generation. As the years pass by, the obsession with social media and mobile phones among young children is bound to increase further if we don’t make a conscious effort to reverse the impact by getting rid of the impulsive habit of checking and using our mobile phones throughout the day and even at night.
